Be Still My Soul

overwhelm Jan 30, 2023

Hello Friend

I just got back from taking a week off and realized - Yikes! How am I going to get it all done?!!!

Have you ever felt that way?  Maybe you're there right now!  I don't know about you, but It's that same panicky feeling I get when I go into a clothing store & find it's up to me to sort through an unorganized, chaotic mess!  The kind of mess where each rack is jammed to its' limit with all shapes, sizes and styles.  I can tell you this.  When I find myself in a place like that - I turn right around and head out of that store!   That's what I was feeling today when I didn't even know where to start in the mound of "to do's" for this week.

The Two Sides of Overwhelm

Quite a big difference from back when my overwhelm came from "nothing to do" after experiencing burnout.  I know that may seem strange to some of you that a person who has nothing to do can be just as overwhelmed.  But it can happen.  Someday I'll talk about that kind of overwhelm!  But today, my paralysis to move forward came from the overwhelm of not even knowing where to start.  All of that just from taking one week off!!!  Are you kidding me?

Get moving again!

So, here's what I did to get me moving and at least getting started on my list.  I went straight into my worship room, put on my earphones and asked God to give me something to calm me down!  Of course, he is so faithful and he did just that!

If you're feeling a little more overwhelmed than usual today, let me just share with you what God told me this morning, so you can draw strength from it as well.  After listening to an arrangement by Kari Jobe of the song "Be Still My Soul" (In You I rest), I felt a calm that I knew came directly from God. I took the words God spoke to me directly from that song - along with a verse from Psalms and walked away with just what I needed to face the day.  Here are some of those words...

Be Still my soul, the Lord is on thy Side...Leave to thy God to order and provide; In every change he faithful will remain...Be still my soul thy God doth undertake to guide the future as he has the past...Be still my soul, the waves and winds still know, his voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.

And of course, as in typical God fashion, he brought me to the text in Psalm 46:10 to sort of top it all off.  It says..."Be still, and know that I am God!"

May God's blessing of peace fall on you, as you move through whatever is overwhelming you in your life today.
